The cooperage is an old profession that has adapted to the growing demand of their customers wine growers, distillers of spirits, brewers, etc.. More than a trade, making alcohol containers is an art that is an integral part of French culture.
From a few hundred hectolitres to more than 10,000 hectolitres for the world’s largest lightning bolt located in Thuir (Pyrénées-Orientales). The vats and tuns are pieces of art that bear witness to a high level of know-how. In order to produce these large containers, the lightning makers have to obtain the best quality of boules.
Industries du bois de Neuvy, located a few kilometres from the Chambord estate, selects during the entire manufacturing process the best boules that are suitable for making vats and tuns. Above all, our controlled supply from the surrounding forests enables us to offer you wood with a colour and grain that is renowned throughout the world. Thus, our blocks are exempt or almost exempt of singularities. Finally, from this reduced quantity of logs, they will go through a final selection and will be rejected if the grain of the wood is deemed unsuitable for use in lightning. It is therefore a tiny part of our blocks that can be offered to lightning and coopers but a great pride for us to participate modestly in a flagship sector of French culture.
